What's included in my estimate?
Your estimate provides a price range for the full scope of your intended renovation. The estimate is divided into three parts: Materials, Services, and Construction.
Materials consists of all fixtures, finishes, and associated shipping costs. Through our relationship with our vendors, we pass trade discounts onto you. Services includes design services, building approval, 3D renderings, procurement, and project support from beginning to end of your renovation. Finally, Construction consists of home protection, demolition, and labor by a certified and vetted partner contractor.
How does payment work?
When you work with Block, you have the option to make payments by ACH, checks, and all major credit cards.
Your project will have standard payment terms, including an initial $500 deposit to reserve your renovation and then installments. The first installment occurs at your project kickoff. The second occurs when when your Permits & Approvals and Design are completed. Your third installment includes any potential change orders at project completion.
How long does a renovation take?
On average, Block bathrooms are built within 4-6 weeks, compared to the industry average of 3 months. These 4-6 weeks include demolition, framing, plumbing, tiling, and electrical work. The exact timeline of your renovation is determined after we assess your site conditions.
How does Block vet its contractors?
When you renovate through Block, you are matched with a licensed and insured contractor who has been thoroughly vetted for experience, quality, and reputation in the field. Our vetting process includes an interview process, background checks, and reference calls.
By working together on multiple projects a year, we develop strong relationships with our partners, ensuring much greater reliability than when working with a contractor on a one-time basis.
How can I trust the work is done correctly?
We've introduced several quality checks into the renovation to ensure the best result possible. This includes an architectural planning session to meet your goals, a project kick-off with renderings and technical instructions, and digital support throughout the process.
In addition, our builders are licensed, insured, and carefully vetted to ensure they have the experience to get the job done right according to Block standards.
What happens when something goes wrong?
Unforeseen conditions are a reality in construction. However, here at Block, we are ready for the surprises. As an all-in-one platform for renovation, Block can efficiently mobilize the relevant stakeholders to get the project back on track as soon as possible. On top of that, we offer a one year workmanship warranty.
What about board or building approvals?
The building approval process can be overwhelming, but we have your back. First, we ask to see a copy of your building's alteration agreement to learn of any restrictions or licensing requirements. Then we collect the relevant documents from your contractor and designer for you to submit to your building management. These documents range from detailed design plans and work schedules to insurance certificates and city permits.
Normally, a board approval process takes between 2-4 weeks.
