The homeowners in Pound Ridge, NY, transformed a dated L-shaped 1968 kitchen into a bright, open, Scandinavian-inspired cooking and entertaining hub. They removed a wall and added windows to flood the space with natural light, installed sleek, functional cabinetry and an eat-in island, and upgraded to modern appliances and smart storage solutions. 

Every design choice was guided by function—if it didn’t add utility, it didn’t make the cut. What was once cramped and inefficient now accommodates a full house of guests and serves as a stylish centerpiece for daily life.

This Brooklyn kitchen remodel embraces an open layout where every detail feels intentional and connected. At the center, a generous kitchen island pairs warm wood cabinetry with marble countertops, creating an artful contrast between the wood’s natural warmth and the marble’s cool undertones.

Flat-faced cabinet doors and drawers keep the design clean and modern, while gold hardware adds a subtle layer of sophistication. A tall built-in cabinet with glass-paneled doors introduces vertical balance and storage, giving the room both function and presence. Overhead, a sculptural light fixture ties the space together, adding a bold, contemporary touch that complements the kitchen’s mix of materials.

By blending wood, marble, and thoughtful architectural details, this Brooklyn kitchen remodel achieves a look that is both playful and elegant, turning the kitchen into a true centerpiece of the home.
