The hardest kitchen remodel mistakes to catch are often choices that sound like upgrades at first: a bigger island, a walk-in pantry, a professional-style range, more seating.

Demolition can expose deteriorated plumbing, damaged subfloors, old wiring, moisture problems, and other conditions that could not be fully evaluated beforehand. Prep sinks, pot fillers, beverage refrigerators, appliance garages, warming drawers, and double ovens can all earn their place in the right kitchen. ### 7. Forcing an island into a kitchen that does not have room for one

Does the island still feel like an upgrade when someone opening the dishwasher blocks the walkway behind them?

An island has to coexist with appliance doors, stools, cabinet drawers, people cooking, and people passing through. In a kitchen without enough clearance, a peninsula, movable worktable, or open floor area can be more useful.
